This post is for all the late-sunseekers out there who are cashing in on a last minute getaway before winter descends.
Your holiday makeup and skincare essentials should be a small, well chosen selection of hard-working products that won’t take up too much luggage space.
Your skincare should work to protect, moisturise, enhance and sometimes if you’ve had a little too much sun, repair as well. A product that is fragrant and moisturising is a win-win because it means you can ditch the perfume and a holiday is the perfect opportunity to go foundation free. It’s all about the edit!
Eau Thermale Avène Very High Protection Cream & Spray
Suncare is a must! Don’t take chances, pick a broad spectrum UVA & UVB with PA++. Avene is a lovely French skincare brand that has a great sun care line you can see here. I love the skin kind, antioxidant formulations that protect and nourish simultaneously. Not to mention this brand is great for hypersensitive skin. If you don’t want a lotion they have lightweight spray formulas too, packed with Avène Thermal Spring Water that heals and soothes the skin with its anti-irritating properties. A must have for every beach babe. Shop here.
Biafine Skin Healing Emulsion
Sunburn; we’ve all been there. Gotten a little cocky in the Spanish sun? Frolicked in the ocean sans protection thinking that you’ll be a bronzed goddess come 6pm? Then reality strikes and you are more Lobster than Lopez.
Sunburn can ruin your nights sleep and a holiday, so don’t take your chances and bring along this gem. Biafine cream has been prescribed for more than two decades to restore damaged skin to its formal, healthy condition. Although prescribed for superficial wounds, minor abrasions, 1st and 2nd degree burns it also is a fabulous cure for sunburn. It works by rapidly promoting skins healing by eliminating excessive damaged tissue, increasing the amount of macrophage cells which then boosts levels of fibroblast cells on the skin, which are responsible for collagen repair and healthier skin. First aid skincare! Shop here.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré
You may be tempted to pack the kitchen sink when journeying abroad, after all we want to look our best in the holiday snaps. However, find a cream that works for you and let the vitamin D from the sun and the healthy ocean air do the rest.
I love Embroylisse Lait-Crème Concentré, it has been a firm favourite for years. A good choice for a holiday face cream because it’s super lightweight formula is very hydrating but absorbs very quickly. Not only is it deeply moisturising but extremely versatile and can be used as a makeup remover/cleanser/ primer and face cream.
My skin always feels so soothed when I use this as it increases elasticity and suppleness. The formula contains shea butter, beeswax, soy and aloe vera for plumping and smoothing your sun soaked skin. Shop here.
NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil
I feel like Nuxe products were made for dreamy island life, especially this delicious Multi-Use Dry Oil with its luxurious floral fragrance. One whiff and I’m transported to a white sandy beach, lazily swinging in a hammock, Pina Colada in one hand and an engrossing novel in the other. Dreamy.
This oil gets points for being a multipurpose product (suitcase space saver- hello!). Rub onto sun-soaked limbs to add a deeply fragrant glow, run through post beach hair for a moisture boost – HELL splash this stuff everywhere, it’s totally irresistible! I would also go out at night without a perfume as the oil emits it’s heady mixture of 6 Precious Plant Oils (Borage, St Johnswort, Sweet Almond, Camellia, Hazelnut, Macadamia) when applied to warmed limbs. Nuxe Reve de Miel Baume Levres Ultra-Nourrissant Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
My last holiday skincare essential is the humble lip balm. The Nuxe Lip balm is a repeat purchase for me, a favourite of Lisa Eldridge as well, this lip balm is matte so looks great under lipstick as well as offering relief to chapped and dried lips. Use sparingly during the day, as it is thick and use as a night treatment to restore suppleness and moisture to your lips. The fragrance is orange and honey – soothing and luxurious. Shop here.
Now for the colourful counterpart to my Holiday Essentials Guide.
Murad Skin Perfecting Primer – Dewy Finish
I received this product from Murad in one of their little discovery kits at the start of summer and it has been my go to primer when I am rocking a no-foundation look. The formula has pigments in it so it gives a tiny bit of coverage and a dewy finish whilst minimising pores and balancing oils. It has adapting pigments so one shade suits all. I apply after my moisturiser for the perfect base to my concealer which I use to eliminate imperfections and redness. Murad also have this product in a matte version. Shop here.
Lasting Perfection Concelaer by Collection in Cool Medium
This is my go to concealer. It’s not a fancy brand but it’s a damn fine product! Long wearing, medium to full coverage, moisturising, doesn’t cake and beautiful to blend; this product gives me the confidence to go without foundation and that’s exactly what you want when you are on holiday. Jouer Bronzer & Blush Custom Palette
For those of you who follow me on Instagram and watch my vlogs will know how much I adore this new addition to my makeup regime. I am crazy for the Jouer bronzers and blushes. With a beautiful array of colours (suntan, sunswept, sunshine) and finishes (mattefying, shimmer) these moisturising mineral bronzers are a dreamy addition to your holiday face. NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Khao San Road
If you can’t wear bright blue eyeliner on holiday I really don’t know when you can. The reason I have added this to my holiday cosmetics essentials is because this NARS eyeliner is a down right stunning shade of aquamarine, reminding my of crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. Not only does the aqua blue of Khao San Road pop against all eye colours but it’s a dreamy, tropical pairing with a bronzed makeup look.
NARS Larger than life liners are uber long lasting and completely smudge proof, believe me I’ve had a good rub ;). Chock full of pigments, there are several mouthwatering shades to choose from. I particularly like St Marks Place (electric purple) and Las Ramblas (a yellow gold). The built in sharpener and twist up delivery makes this product hard working. Shop here.
Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colour in Summer Nude
Put down the red lipstick, you will NOT be wearing it on your holiday despite your best intentions. Every holiday face needs a great nude lip and my choice woudl be Bobbi Browns Sheer Lip Coloiur in Summer Nude. This light-weight formula is highly pigmented and nourishing (full of butters and oils) at the same time. Add a light swipe of colour for a dewy lip or apply, dab and repeat to build colour intensity. I love the Summer Nude colour as it’s not too intense and wont block out the natural rosiness of your lips but adds a terracotta/coral tint to your smile. Ultimate comfort, low maintenance, naturally beautiful.
What are your holiday essentials? Have you tried any of these products? I would love to know your thoughts on this post below.
