My Blonde Swedish Ambition: Cut & Colour with Andrew Jose

 My Dreamy Swedish Blonde Look

The other day somebody pulled me up on the state of my hair, ironically it was at a hair press launch and everything. This person was, master of his craft and industry professional, Andrew Jose who owns the Andrew Jose salon at no. 1 Charlotte street. Okay, my roots were nearing the 2 inch mark and my newly acquired growth (which I worked SO hard to achieve) was a wispy excuse for hair…..but I am going to just come out and say it, I am a self confessed hairdresser slut. I never stay faithful to a place for more than 6 months, always flitting between salon and stylists hoping the next one will fulfil my current follicle fantasy. Sitting in the hairdressers chair only leads to disappointment, maybe this is why I am so hesitant to book in my next cut and colour.

I was kindly extended an invitation to visit Andrew Jose salon for a complimentary cut and colour this week. The salon itself is set over two floors and is very light and airy. Perched right on the corner of bustling Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia lined with bars, restaurants and delis. I am sat and have cut and colour consultation back to back and offered a choice of beverages and magazines.

Colour

Nalan, a trendy girl with cute tattoos and a love of bright lipstick is my colourist today. I talk her through my checklist, she gets it; a Swedish, natural and clean blonde look. What is important here is how she relays back to me everything I want, describing her method in great detail, perfect for control freaks like myself who think we know better (but don’t). I am put at ease. She sets to work with deft fingers giving me a half head of thinly woven but dense highlights using 3 different shades of blonde, in record time I might add. She also pops a few around the neckline and goes for a more dense, brighter look around the face framing layers. If you are blonde and your current colourist doesn’t do this for you then tell them to fix up! I am shampooed, toned, shampooed again, and given a LUX OIL TREATMENT with an infusion repair which sat for 8 minutes and smelt divine.

Luke, my stylist, is Sassoon trained and cuts in salon and is also an educator for other salons like the Galvin bros. I specifically wanted to keep some length and he brought me round to the idea of bringing the front layers up making them look thicker and healthier. The term “the Rachel” was bandied around. He tailored the blow dry to my exacting requirements; smoothed down on top with a swing through the ends.

The staff at AJ are so attentive and polite. I was the centre of their everything. Nalan continued to check up on me every 10-15 mins throughout my treatment, Andrew Jose himself even offered to pick me up food (they will do this for any client) from the local deli, compliments of the salon. Maybe I was a disappointment as I just sank two glasses of chilled water throughout my 3 hour visit. I wanted for nothing.

The result is a natural, clean and fresh blonde, very multi-tonal but the blondes all work harmoniously together. It is beautifully executed and I anticipate it will grow out naturally. If you are still looking for that “right” blonde look then visit Nalan, she knows her stuff.

As I left I thanked Andrew and gave him a twirl declaring it was “the best blonde colour job” I have ever had. He confidently replied, “this is now your salon.” The man isn’t wrong, I will be back.

My package is a half head of highlights, tone & treatment (£110) and hair cut (£70) total £180.

I am wearing Lipstick Perrie by Collection.

I may have already written about my new shoe obsession, the mule. If not then this post is well overdue.

After stocking up on sliders I now realise that I may have been a bit premature in committing to so many summer shoe purchases so early on in the season. I am now lusting after every pair of mules I see, each pair better than the last.
