Nars Pure Matte Lipstick: Review

Despite my obvious love of lipstick I recently noticed a didn’t have a hot pink lipstick in my stash, which obviously meant it was time to shop! I decided to give Nars lipsticks a go as I have no previous experience using any of their lip colour; only their cult bronzer and blush combo (Laguna & Orgasm respectively).

Texture & Colour

I selected one of their Pure Matte formulas as I am a sucker for a matte finish. I chose the hue in Carthage; a bright, almost fluro pink hue, which popped against my (currently) tan-less, pale complexion. I initially wanted to go for a sheer, blotted application, but with this formula it was impossible as the texture is quite thick. Instead I went for full, opaque coverage and glad I did because the colour really packed a fruity punch! This pink really is DARRLING when it’s used to its full effect!

Application

The Lipstick has a sharped angled yet slim nib, which made a precision application a breeze. I blotted twice and followed with some Lipcote to seal the deal. I always take a huge bag of popcorn with me to the theatre and wanted to make sure the lippie stayed on through 2 curtain calls and an intermission martini!

Verdict

Nars Pure Matte is, pure matte. I found despite the description on the website, there was no moisture so make sure you moisturise your lips beforehand so your lip canvas is all prepped for painting. I recommend Nuxe Reve de Miel, which is one of the only true matte, yet fully moisturising lip blams I have come across. You need to build this colour to get full the colour intensity, but it is worth is because this is a beautiful shade of fuchsia! Just remember your Lipcote because I think this wouldn’t have had half the staying power if I hadn’t used my Lipcote as a sealer.

Nars Pure Matte Lipstick £18.50

Lipcote, £3.69 at Boots
